How the preview works

An AI image model restyles your photo in the style you choose. Each preview is watermarked, and the print uses the exact picture you approve, without the watermark. A second preview of the same style is a different picture and uses one of the day's three.

Which photo works

Upload the original file, not a screenshot, at least 800 px on the short side. Daylight, the whole head in frame and the eyes in focus give the model more to work with.

How the portrait is made

Upload a photo of your horse and choose a style: Oil Painting, Watercolour, Charcoal Sketch, Pop Art or Impressionist. An AI image model restyles your photo in the style you choose. You see a watermarked preview, free, up to three a day after you verify your email, and the print uses that exact picture without the watermark.

The five styles

StyleWhat it looks likeOften chosen for
Oil PaintingRich, traditional, the sporting-art lookA hallway, a dining room, a long partnership
WatercolourSoft, light and paleA bedroom, a memorial, a grey or a pale horse
Charcoal SketchGrey and black, drawn lines left visibleA study, a dark horse, a monochrome room
Pop ArtBold flat colourA child’s pony, a bright modern room
ImpressionistLoose strokes, more mood than detailA sitting room, a horse seen in the field
A pop art portrait of a bay horse looking over a yard gate, in flat orange, teal, red and yellow with halftone dots.
The example horse in Pop Art, the boldest of the five.

The same photo looks quite different in each. A bay in oil and a grey in watercolour make two very different objects on a wall, so it is worth generating more than one preview before you choose.

What it comes on

The table above lists each format with its sizes, frame colours and live prices. Posters are 250gsm uncoated off-white archival paper; canvases are stretched on a 2 cm frame. Framed canvas comes in black, dark wood or natural wood. The portrait can also go on a mug, a water bottle, metal or wood, or come as a digital file.

Which photo works

JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB, at least 800 px on the short side. Daylight, the whole head in frame and the eyes in focus give the model more to work with. A horse backlit against a bright sky, a rug that hides the body, or heavy motion blur are the usual problems. Tick that you own the photo or have permission to reproduce it.

A portrait of your own horse, as a gift

A portrait is often bought for someone else: a partner who has had the same horse for years, a child with a first pony, or an owner whose horse has just retired or died. If it’s a surprise, you need a photo they won’t miss. Look through the pictures they’ve shared, or ask a friend at the yard, and pick one where the horse looks like itself: ears forward, the usual headcollar, the white blaze in the right place. The free preview shows you the likeness before anything is ordered, so you can try two or three photos and keep the best. For a portrait meant to hang in a hallway or dining room for years, the oil style is the safe pick.

Questions, answered

Is the portrait painted by hand?
No. It's remade from your photo by an AI image model, in the style you choose. You see the watermarked preview before you pay, and the print uses that exact picture without the watermark.
What makes a good horse portrait?
A clear daylight photo with the whole head in frame and both eyes in focus, and a style that suits the horse and the room. A dark horse often looks best in oil or charcoal, a grey or a pale horse in watercolour.
Do I have to pay to see a preview?
No. After you verify your email you can generate up to three successful previews a day, free. You only pay if you choose one and order it.
Can I return it?
Not for a change of mind: it is made to your specification. If it arrives damaged or wrong, we reprint or refund; delivery and returns says how.
