Two horses in a frosted field at dawn
Horses in Mist is a winter morning. Two ponies, one dark and one pale dun, stand together in a frosted field with their breath clouding, bare trees fading into fog behind them and a strip of thawing ground at their feet. The watercolour is almost monochrome: pearl, pale gold and soft grey, with the two horses the only firm shapes in it.
It is the calmest picture in the collection. It suits a bedroom or a reading corner, a house with pale walls, and anyone who loves winter on the yard more than summer shows. It is also one of the two prints with winter already in them, so it is a good choice of horse Christmas gifts for someone without a horse of their own, and a gentle one after a loss. On a framed canvas the pale tones look like a window onto a cold field.
Its winter companion is Dawn Meet.
