A dappled grey hunter, drawn in charcoal
The Grey Hunter is a head study in charcoal and graphite on warm toned paper. The horse looks out with a calm, slightly hooded eye; the dapples on the neck are smudged in with the side of the charcoal and the mane is a few quick strokes. It is drawn the way an artist sketches a horse they know well, with the lines left visible.
A drawing like this suits a study, a library or an office: places where colour would compete. It is a natural gift for someone who hunts or used to, for the owner of a grey of any breed, and for a reader of the old sporting books. Because it is monochrome it sits with any colour scheme. At A4 and A3 in a black frame it looks like a drawing bought from a country gallery.
Charcoal is also one of the five styles on the custom horse portrait, if you would like the same treatment for their own horse.
